To have known the calm thoughtful precise Nigel Calder through his life saving mechanical guidebooks makes reading this story of one sailing disaster after another difficult to reconcile. However it is a most valuable read for anyone thinking of chucking it all and going sailing. I was a neophyte sailor about the same time as Calder got his family aboard Nada but I went a different route not trusting my building skills. I bought a well found production boat of known quality and went coastal cruising and suffered much less but was filled with the same feelings of anxiety he expresses so well. Calder took his pregnant wife and small child to the Caribbean only to discover they are all prone to seasickness, his wife hates sailing and his home built boat is overly tender. It is a tale well told with lots of personal history and anecdote, candid, funny and appalling by turns (much too much defecating and urinating inappropriately by the children for me) but so honest and filled with the real emotions of going sailing it brought back my memories of feeling overwhelmed and concerned at dropping it all to go and be a sailing Bohemian. Besides I too loved sailing the Exumas and Calder bravely tackles the place I wanted to go and never had the nerve: Haiti. Fascinating easy to read and if you love to sail a must read.

I'm a sailor, I have a sailboat and sail San Diego Bay, but so many times i'm afraid to go out there, because I might make mistakes, screw up, and things might go bad. Well in this book, Nigel Caulder, one of the world's foremost experts on boat mechanics, diesel engines, etc....tells us all the dumb things HE did, and all the crazy things that went wrong on his first big adventure. The book was entertaining, educational and well written, and also offers somewhat of a history lesson of the Caribbean. Loved this book.Rick D'Amico

I enjoyed this book very much. Calder gives an honest report of what it's like to face the joys and challenges on the cruising life. Although it reflects back on his sailing decades ago not much has changed except navigational tools, and crowds, so this is all still relevant today. I like the inclusion of some history of islands where he lands and explores. I learned enough to make me want to know a lot more.

This is an excellent read for young dreamers who want to sail the world. Learn what not to do by following their first cruise adventures and tribulations.

Enjoyable read, well written.

Shakedown Cruise is a great read! This book fuses all of Nigel's other books, great spots to sail, useful tips for getting in an out of harbors, anchoring and charts, as well as historical briefs on each island and port. I also found his honesty about the difficulties of raising children on a boat on a serious budget to be deeply inspiring. It is in many ways a book for couples who want an honest opinion about the joys and tribulations of raising a family at sea. For me personally, as Nigel's eldest daughter, I found my memories justified as I am seasick on almost every page!!!! As the lucky offspring of this adventure, I encourage everyone to read this book and take your kids out to sea!!!

I have to admit the title threw me. What I originally thought was it was a tourist type luxury liner cruise designed to nickel & dime the average customer. Now I realize a shakedown cruise is intended to prepare a new vessel or aircraft for regular service by accustoming the crew to its features and peculiarities. breaking in and adjusting machinery, etc. Turns out the author of this 1987 narrative would later become one of America's leading yachting writers and that this 1987 shakedown cruise would prove instrumental in making Calder the yachtsman he is today.Although I picked by mistaken the title, I'm one that believes in serendipity. As I started reading I was reminded of my junior year in high school; where I spent the summer in Montreal working as a stevedore. The young men's culture; instead of talking about getting their first car, were excitedly conversing about getting their first boat! Nigel Calder would fit right in. So this hooked me in. I was back into that culture with a master yachtsman and writer/In the dark we forgot to unplug the shore power a cable: we rip it in half and find the torn end trailing overboard in the morning, an apt symbol of the rough cutting of our umbilical cord since we are leaving much unfinished business behind. Thus begins the narrative as the author cuts the cord with the land world & embarks with his young wife, three months pregnant, in 1987 and their one-year old daughter. Shakedown Cruise captures these months as Terrie became increasingly large, giving birth in late summer. They continued sailing through the West Indies in the relatively, still unspoiled Caribbean until 1988. By the time their new born son turned one; Shakedown ends. The narrative follows their cruise from New Orleans across the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean basin to Venezuela and back. They were both often seasick and Niguel was continually fixing the boat, as what could go wrong, did go wrong. The book is peppered with sections that tell the reader the proper way fix problems or address them. For instance: Running A Ground And Kegging Off; Gulf of Mexico Cold Fronts; Heaving To; Anchoring Routines; Navigating In Coral; A Bahamian Moor; and more. There are also color pictures, black & white photos, diagrams, and maps. This is an adventure story and colorful travelogue in one.Well worth reading; especially for those who have sailing in their blood and/or culture.

This is an excellent installment in a very useful series. Butler’s ‘very short introduction’ to postmodernism packs in a great deal of information and successfully characterizes the movement/phenomenon. This is no mean feat, since postmodernism is sometimes used as a philosophic nexus, one that is associated with capital-T Theory and the work of the French Nietzscheans (though Lacan receives no attention here). ‘Postmodern’ is also used to characterize fiction, photography, conceptual art, architecture (especially) and, to a lesser degree, music. Butler gives examples of all of these and attempts to make sense of a notion that is quite slippery. For example, Jameson’s famous account of the Westin Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles as quintessentially ‘postmodern’ is debatable. It does not, for example, have features that call attention, obstreperously, to function, as the Frank Gehry house on the west side of town does. The Bonaventure is ‘reflexive’ to the viewer because the viewer sees his reflection in the exterior but it is not reflexive in the sense that John Barth’s novels (or, for that matter, TRISTRAM SHANDY) are/is. In other words, this is a thicket and Butler leads us through it with great skill and lucidity. The overall characteristics of postmodernism are discussed in detail; it is anti-humanist, anti-foundational, intensely skeptical, relativist and deeply suspicious of traditional notions of truth, meaning and reasoning. It is anti-empirical and jealous of science’s cultural positioning as well as its truth claims. It denies the reality of the ‘individual’ and is anxious to deconstruct any remaining faith in the reality and authenticity of ‘history’. Like the internet it collapses history into the momentary and substitutes imagery for argument. Some of the Amazon reviewers have considered Butler to be contemptuous of postmodernism and, in effect, an unfair judge. I disagree; I find him to be quite fair. There are many commentators who see postmodernism as closer to the armament of the antichrist than a philosophic/cultural current. Since we are now 14 years beyond the publication of Butler’s book it has become increasingly clear that postmodernism’s impact has waned significantly. English department applicants to graduate specialties in Theory have shrunk to almost none and current graduate students are often heard to say that they feel lucky that they escaped this particular time in literary studies. Many believe that Paul Boghossian has cut the heart out of relativist/constructivist approaches in his FEAR OF KNOWLEDGE: AGAINST RELATIVISM AND CONSTRUCTIVISM (2007).Of course, it has long been a staple of those who would criticize relativism that those who would aspire to be relativists must stand somewhere. You cannot assert the authority of relativism without, simultaneously, undercutting your own argument. The same is true of Derridean deconstruction. The endlessly sliding signifier problem and the inherently contradictory nature of language problem are often dissolved by simple context. Deconstructionists are troubled by the fact that the Greek word for medicine is also the word for poison, but as Donald Greene has pointed out, we have no confusion with regard to the meaning of the word when we see one person with a sore back take a single Valium and another desperate individual take 50, washing them down with Scotch. Similarly, ‘cleave’ means to both join and separate, but we have no trouble understanding this when we hear a minister urging a marrying couple to cleave to one another and when we see an Amsterdam diamond expert preparing to cleave a large stone. Postmodernists have urgently informed us of the weakness of Enlightenment rationality but used Enlightenment tools to defend themselves against their critics. As Thucydides put it, “it is a habit of mankind to entrust to careless hope what they long for, and to use sovereign reason to thrust aside what they do not desire” (noted by Victor Davis Hanson in his brilliant new book on WWII).Butler attributes the postmodernists’ contempt for the Enlightenment to the fact that reason, logic and the empirical method have deflated the claims of both Marx and Freud (which, for them, are essential): “Postmodernists are by and large pessimists, many of them haunted by lost Marxist revolutionary hopes” (p. 114), a point explored at length by Stephen R. C. Hicks in his very important EXPLAINING POSTMODERNISM (2004). Frederick Crews has now deflated the claims of Freud once and for all (try to find his influence on a contemporary Psychological Sciences department) and the numbers are in on the number of people slaughtered in Marxist states. Hence the argument that the use of Enlightenment principles and techniques has undercut Marx; thus, the postmodernists attempt to undercut the Enlightenment and get back into Marxist business.Ultimately, Butler concludes, “the enduring achievements of postmodernism are therefore likely to be found not within philosophy or politics, or even in moral thought, but within the artistic culture” (p.123). In short, it will be remembered in the way that Dadaism and Surrealism are remembered. It will provide influences here and there and a few of its principles will be seen in our information technology but it will not displace Platonic idealism, Aristotelian empiricism or other foundational philosophic structures. I believe that this is spot on.Highly recommended.

When the title says A Very Short Introduction they are not kidding. Nonetheless, Christopher Butler has done an outstanding job of boiling down the essence of Postmodernism. In fact, he has done so well I would direct anyone to this book who wanted a good foundation in the subject before reading further. Even if you know the subject of Postmodernism this is a good read because it is so well written. While supporters of the ideology may quibble over the critique I don't think they could complain (reasonably) about the presentation. It is clear, concise, and very insightful. The author has managed to zero in on the essence of the subject and then explain that core belief system accurately and clearly. If you want an introduction to Postmodern thought this is the book to read. Extremely straightforward, no guff or misdirection, no unnecessary discussion of anything out of the mainstream.I've now read several titles in the Very Short Introduction series and every one of them has been good to outstanding.AD2

What I love about this book is Christopher Butler's thinking and use of language. While postmodern pseudo-intellectuals hide behind obscurantist language, Butler carefully deconstructs their kitsch pretenses.

I was trying to understand postmodernism and this book provides a very nice overview. I am not yet certain if postmodernism is the proper solution to our challenge. I think anything is worth consideration and we may always choose bits and pieces from this concept to help us form the next attempt at improving our existence.Thank You, Christopher Butler, for sharing your thoughts.

This is not my idea of a book in very good condition. This book is practically unusable. Not happy at all with the seller. This is not a complaint about the books contents.

Very helpful. After studying postmodernism years ago, this summary clearly organized the knowledge I had gathered and clarified some confusion. There are still some points evading understanding not because of the author's presentation, but because postmodern thought is not always coherent. Postmodern architects could not translate literary theory directly into steel, plaster, and glass. I will refer to the book in future.

Overall good book, I guess. It provides a clear intro to postmodernism. The author, however, in my opinion, is too negative about the topic. Expect a bit more difficulty in reading this compared to other books from this series.

This is an excellent well balanced introduction to material most people consider tough.Visual artists may be disappointed because the emphasis is on literary criticism, but that would be nit-picking. The underlying concepts are identical and understanding the basic concepts will make it obvious how to apply them appropriately. Back to this book, it presents the material clearly and without the preciousness or pretense, and with opposing view points and weaknesses too. If you want a solid working introduction to the material and a great reference guide once you master it, this is a can't beat purchase for the money. It's also really well made and bound. As for students, if you only have time for one introduction and need one book that might get you through a tough lit. or art history course, this will do the job perfectly.

Don't think I wanna run into these authors in a dark alley somewhere. (JK...love ya) Wow, the deep thought they seem to delve into the mind of a serial killer for the cops to break the case.I enjoyed that not only did we get to feel the story from the mind of the killer, but also the emotions of the cops. I felt like I could have been right there during the investigation into the murders and while they were on the way to solve them.I thought the authors did an excellent job of bringing us readers into the story. Great job!!!Until Next Time... Tabi

Oh wow, this book is very different from anything I have read. It has twists and turns that keeps you on your toes. It flows very smooth and is very easy to read. The details suck you in like you are part of the story. I strongly recommend this book to everyone.

Love how this book is told in duel point of view from one of the heroes and the other is from the killers view. Love how Knox pursued Remi and their chemistry is hot. Love the twist and turns that keeps you flipping the pages.

I really enjoyed Remi and Knox's journey of trying to solvie these murders before the serial killer "Professor" can strike again. I received this arc for an honest review.

I'm thinking this story was unfortunately published unfinished and it had footnotes. It was good but I don't think it ended.

Wow..wow..wow.. this book was so many things.. Psychotic, suspenseful, funny and HOT.. The chemistry between the characters and the banter among them all had me laughing and fanning myself at the same time.. This book was such a smooth easy read you would never believe it was written by two people.... Can't wait to see what they come out with next....

Probably the best book social dynamics in the workplace I have ever read. Alas, it's the only one that I've read. There are many books on management, leadership and social dynamics. I've a few. I know people who have read a lot more. This book cuts across topics discussed in multiple books in much shorter language. This book also ties together topics that other books do not. I, personally, found it easier to read everything from one book quickly rather than figure it out from matching up several ones.Fast read. Well written. Gets to the point. Has a very modern philosophy on teams.----AddendumHOWEVER the authors of this book focus primarily on one style of project work, that being working on teams. In fact they focus almost exclusively on a concept I know as "self-directed teams."Other ways groups of people can work together is rarely discussed. Also some of the recommendations will likely not be possible to implement depending on your position in the company. For example, a team manager may not have a say on who is welcome on his/her team. If someone is not working out, he/she may not have the option of getting rid of that person. Also, people who very obviously should not belong on the same team may be forced into that work arrangement despite everyone's protests. HR may do that. It's nice to read that that team won't work, but ... everyone knew that already.

In short - it is a book on how to treat people. Written for managers in software companies (can be generalized to all companies which expect their employees to do creative work), in my opinion it can be read just by anybody, even if only to raise awareness of toxic workplaces. The authors have written “Peopleware” basing on their vast consulting experience for software firms, as well as their experiments and survey-based research. The book’s title signifies the importance of employees; the prevalent message is that most of problems in software projects are not related to technology, but relations between people. Bad atmosphere, working overtime, context switching - these are much more likely to make a project miss its deadline than tools and technologies used by the team. A considerable portion of text is focusing on bad practices, found in many corporations and oftentimes excused as “necessary evil” or “politics”. Chapters are short, with examples from many companies (negative stories are anonymous). In its form, the book is a series of meaningful essays, written in informal, humorous way.It is absolutely worth mentioning, that this title is *not* about methodologies of project management, nor project performance or software tools. They are downplayed on purpose; in industries which demand creativity, people are most important. As the authors are focused on human aspects (thinking, emotions, psychology, interactions), “Peopleware” will always be relevant. The first edition was published in 1987, I am confident that it did not require much revision since then.My favourite chapter is on team creation - there is no golden rule which guarantees that a team fill perform better than sum of its parts, however there are numerous surefire ways to make it perform worse. The positive examples are revolving around motivated people, aligned with general goals of their companies, then let loose on finding solutions on their own. Managers are supposed to be obstacle removers, not dictators. If companies were adhering to postulated recommendations, many, many people would be able to say that their work is pleasure. Please read it, then put it on your manager’s desk :)

This is a must-read for every professional software engineer, even if you don't have aspirations to become an engineering manager. This book will help you understand the mindset of typical business bureaucrats and teach you how to present your ideas to these types of people so that you can get the tools (and time) you need to do your job right. If you do want to become an engineering manager, the book will also show you how to protect your developers from unnecessary distractions and how to retain developers who could get a high-paying job anywhere they like. The world of software development is becoming increasingly more important as computer technology improves and we desperately need better software engineers. Don't let yourself become a 'hack,' sitting in meetings all day and never writing a single line of code; free yourself from distractions, achieve your programming 'flow' and make the software engineering world a better place by reading this book!

Great book that contains multiple pearls of wisdom that can finish in a couple of days. Having worked on a german extremelly burocratic multinational company I could relate to this book on so many levels. Several of the no-nos and donts of the book were exactly what I had to face on a daily basis. Oh, the human nature is so pathetic and mediocre...Overall the book is very approachable and an easy and refreshing read. Also I like the fact it has short straight-to-the-point chapters which makes the reader quickly get the message and make it a true pleasure to read.Fully recommended!

Though this book is considered a classic within software engineering management, over 95% of the content is applicable to anybody who manages knowledge workers. I learned a few new things from it. Nothing in it struck me as invalid. The content is consistent with my personal experiences over the past 10+ years as a software engineer. The authors did a great job of identifying, putting to words, and analyzing the nuances that make or break a workplace.

This book promises to explore the controversial effects of “big data efficiency” across all its spectrum --- economic, political, and ethical:=====We are living in a second age of efficiency. Why are citizens around the world so unhappy with their governments, so ready to look to extreme solutions? This book is a critique of something self-evidently desirable, even wonderful, until it isn’t: efficiency. And it’s also about an apparent oxymoron that seems absurd until we realize that it’s also been essential: inspired inefficiency. Efficiency is mostly good but, like all good things, can be carried too far; even an excess of water can be lethal……. Since 2008, the dream of utopia through ever-increasing electronic efficiency has been dimmed.=====Edward Tenner explains how the controversies of this “second age of [electronic] efficiency” hearken back to the controversies of the “first age” of mechanical efficiency, from the 1870’s to the 1930's. As industrial economist Henry George wrote in 1879: “The present century has been marked by a prodigious increase in wealth-producing power. The utilization of steam and electricity, the introduction of improved processes and labor-saving machinery, the greater subdivision and grander scale of production, the wonderful facilitation of exchanges, have multiplied enormously the effectiveness of labor.“But just as such a community realizes the conditions which all civilized communities are striving for, and advances in the scale of material progress….so does poverty take a darker aspect. Some get an infinitely better and easier living, but others find it hard to get a living at all. The “tramp” comes with the locomotive, and almshouses and prisons are as surely the marks of “material progress” as are costly dwellings, rich warehouses, and magnificent churches. Upon streets lighted with gas and patrolled by uniformed policemen, beggars wait for the passer-by, and in the shadow of college, and library, and museum, are gathering the more hideous Huns and fiercer Vandals….”The economic insecurity wrought by mechanical efficiency caused society to be rent by decades of economic depressions where unemployed mobs were incited to riot and revolution. Communism, fascism, world war, and genocide were spawned by people made desperate by “efficiency” resulting in mass unemployment. A new Liberal Globalist world, led by the United States, emerged from the war, and restored prosperity and a semblance of order for 50 years. And now some are alleging that the Liberal Globalist world is threatened by a “Populism” created by the “second age” of computer and internet efficiency. According to the losers of the 2016 elections, all that “fake news” supposedly circulating on the Internet cause Britons to Brexit and Americans to Trumpet. Or perhaps the Britons Brexited and the Americans Trumpeted for other reasons having nothing at all to do with computers, the internet, or fake news? Two questions, then:Large question: Did Britons and Americans revolt against their Establishment elites because they lost their jobs due to computer automation and were angry at being unemployed?Small question: did Britons and Americans revolt against their Establishment elites because they were snookered by “fake news” on the Internet?Tenner gives his view of the “small question.” He feels (as I do) that there was a proliferation of “fake” news in the 2016 elections, but that it was unlikely to have affected the outcomes. However, that brings up a larger point. The “fake news” proliferated because the Internet has placed people in direct contact with points of view on many websites that have not been vetted by the Establishment Media. According to many Liberals, the public is being “brainwashed” by rightwing lunatics who make things up and distort reality. According to Conservatives, it is the "Left Wing Mainstream Media" that brainwashes people with bad information, and it is the democracy of the internet that sets things right.I couldn't discern Tenner's political take, but he generalizes the issue by asking the more important question (paraphrasing), “How can we educate people properly when the Internet has removed the vetting process that traditional publishing houses used to apply to information that was published in newspapers and textbooks?” People are accustomed to believing everything they see in print. How can we train them NOT to believe everything they see on their computer when it down loads an un-vetted internet page?Tenner talks about other aspects of computer technology, such as navigating by GPS, being educated by computer courses, the travails of print journalism in the age of electronic media, and the efficacy of diagnosing medical disorders by computer. These are interesting topics, but do not address the “large” economic question of whether computer automation and the internet are disrupting society to the point of causing the economic earthquake of 2008 and the political earthquake of 2016.Tenner doesn’t say what he thinks about this larger question, but provides links to other authors' books who address it in detail. This book is therefore a pointer to those who want to research the subject deeply. (My feeling is that the “Populists” are “revolting” against government and big business policies that would have happened with or without computer automation.)It seems that Tenner wrote this book to be the “mortar” that binds together the “bricks” that other authors have written in heavy-hitting books. In that regard the book ties together all the current literature about the political, social, and economic effects of computer automation and the Internet. It is a useful survey course of the controversies of this “second age of efficiency.”

This book contains a lot of well researched salient examples, but never really builds to anything other than its initial observation - that our blind pursuit of efficiency in a localized context is paradoxically inefficient. It was an interesting read, but very dense, overly verbose, and shallow in recommending a path forward for the presented problem.

Edward Tenner, the master of science & technology and its intended and unintended consequences, hasdone it again! A book you can not put down. One of Tenner's earlier books, Why Things BiteBack equally is a gem. If you've ever wondered why technology failed in its promise to smoothout the wrinkles of life, this is the book for you! Great fun.

Covered the topic very well and l had in mind the universiy l was teaching part-time. Some of the chapters were a little off topic I thought. Still a good read.

This was one of the worst books I have read in recent memory. Neo-Luddite Edward Tenner fails to make one convincing argument throughout the entire book that the efficiency of technology is, in actuality, a detriment in some scenarios. It was an interesting hook that drew me in, but the book simply fails to deliver on its promise.GPS systems can inadvertently lead people to their doom? Smartphones are great, but they distract kids in school? Yawn. A lot of older folks have been preaching these things for years. It was stupid then, and it's stupid now.

I really love this book. My wife and I are seniors, with the usual health problems, and realizing we should have been eating healthier our whole life. Now that we ARE trying hard to eat healthy, we have discovered that the more we learn about our food industry tricks and deceitfulness, the harder it is to get truly unadulterated and healthy food. I am a retired research scientist, so research investigation comes naturally for me. When I started applying my career skills to studying food and health, I soon discovered that all the things we took for granted about healthy food, and all the things our government and food industry were saying about our food, were just plain lies. At the very least, their claims and advertising were deceitful and self-serving. At first I thought this situation couldn't really be as bad as whistle-blowers and industry and government watchdogs claimed they were. Sorry. It is actually and truly so bad, as to be downright criminal. It turns out that American food is the most contaminated and adulterated and unhealthy food on the planet, and this is all due to the food industry and chemical industry running out of control with food alterations, with only greed and profit to guide them, since our government rules, regulations, guidelines, and inspections are also inadequate, and biased towards industry, not towards public health. This sounds crazy. This sounds like a conspiracy theory. But read this book, and you will soon see the truth for what it is. Their actually is collusion among the food industry, chemical industry, and government agencies to maximize profits of food at the expense of consumer's health. If it isn't criminal collusion, it is, at the very least, mutual cooperation and backscratching for mutual profit boosting.Robyn O'Brian does a superb job of explaining this situation, and her own journey to discovery of the truth, and her newfound strategy to fight this terrible injustice. If you read this book, and you are like me, you will find yourself shopping almost exclusively in the Organic sections of the food stores, and buying only organic produce, and grass fed organic beef, and free-range organic chicken and eggs, etc etc.If this situation bothers you, start voting the corruptive practices out of business by voting with your shopping practices.

Robyn O’Brien takes you on a wild ride on how everyday foods can be extremely dangerous to us and our children. This mother of four had a mission, and that was to find out what is going on with our food supply. She reveals a horrific experience she had when her youngest had an allergic reaction as a baby to eggs. She then continues to share other experiences and scenarios involving food and allergies her and her family have gone through. She has gone on to do extensive research on everything from our food, to its ingredients, to the politics involved in the industry. The information she has uncovered makes for some very “unhealthy truth.” She reveals in detail what kinds of toxins and chemicals are in our food that are not in the same food in oter countries. She shows a great deal of concern on why food in America contains toxins and chemicals not allowed in those other countries. Additionally, she explains why they can be blamed for many of the shocking increases in the 4-A disorders, autism, ADHD, asthma and allergies. The statistics are alarming to learn. What is great about this book is while she tells her story you recognize a scenario that you have experienced yourself. She then answers the very questions you are asking yourself as you are reading. Robyn O’Brien is not just a mother of four complaining about our food supply, she has an MBA and has put in the work necessary to have many pediatricians and asthma and allergy specialists in her corner. This book is very relatable and helpful to any parents looking to keep their children as healthy as possible.

I was extremely fortunate to grow up with parents from Europe who were always aware of environmental issues and the obscene ways in which food manufacturers doctor up the American food supply (they subscribed to environmental health journals and I happily read them because, especially as a kid, it was fascinating to learn about the horrors they warned of, e.g. rBGH, and so on). Nonetheless, it was a bit of a tough lesson for me to realise that most people aren't aware of these issues and often get irrationally angry when you try to warn/enlighten or correct them! Ignorance is dangerous, and pride in these matters only hurts you more! Nonetheless, these experiences helped me to appreciate how essential it is that good eating habits start at home with good examples from parents. That being said, I deeply appreciate that the author 1.) discovered these issues on her own and makes a compelling link between the pollution of the American food supply and health issues (allergies!) within her family and 2.) acknowledges her struggles with educating others and changing how she fed her family. It makes are story relatable and believable. I think this is a great guide for any family struggling with allergies and/or looking to clean up their diets. In fact, all Americans should read this book, because it is truly frightening how misinformed most of them are about their food supply! Glad that someone is attempting to fight this battle!

I appreciate Robin’s dedication and perseverance in researching the topics. I myself have been researching a variety of things in my “spare time” and can appreciate the time involved. Anyway, she touches on a variety of topics but I was hoping for more involved information. Keep in mind, I am an RN, and have been doing allergen research for a decade. This would be perfect to someone looking for a beginning to the food side of environmental toxins. I personally was looking for more thorough, formal, and scientific information. That being said, I have still learned a few things. I didn’t completely love her writing style but I can see how someone new to the topic would find the conversation style book much more approachable. I hope she inspires people to do more of their own research regarding their health and the remaining environmental toxins!
