Long story short, I am currently a second year graduate student who has been getting denied or ignored for internships left and right. As of this fall semester, I've only had one interview, yet did not get a follow up acceptance. I visited a (worthless) career counselor at my university 5 times for advice on my cover letters. Baker's template and 'mind map' idea definitely made it fun to write a cover letter for once too! No more of the boring standardized cover letter BS such as only talking about your 'past work and academic experience.' Baker presents a totally unique approach that can be used for any job position. This is a great book not only because it was well written, but also because it explains why cover letters are still relevant. I used to think that cover letters were obsolete. So many things are digital now. But the author explains, in a very interesting way, how to write a cover letter and what mistakes I need to avoid. I also like the fact that the author did not explain cover letters to me like I'm an idiot. I hate when business books come across like the author is some all-powerful wizard. This book doesn't do that. It did give me actionable advice and explained why.
